  1. Wesley Girls’ Senior High School

Wesley Girls’ High School is an educational institution for girls in Cape Coast, Ghana established in 1836, and named after the founder of Methodism, John Wesley.

Over the years the school has recorded massive pass marks in the WASSCE exams and also ranked 68th out of 100 best high schools in Africa by Almanac in 2003 based upon quality of education, student engagement, strength and activities of alumnae, school profile, internet and news visibility.

The school excels not only academically but also in sports. They won the Sprite Ball Championship in 2008 and 2016.

Some of the notable alumni of the school include Gladys Asmah, former Minister of Fisheries, Melody Millicent Danquah, first female pilot in Africa and Florence Dolphyne, first female Professor and first female Pro-vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Legon.

2. Aburi Girls’ Senior High School

Aburi Girls Senior High School, also known as ABUGISS, is a Presbyterian all-girls senior high boarding school located south of Aburi in the Eastern Region of Ghana. The school was established in 1946.

The school has excellent facilities including eight boarding houses, a dining hall, an assembly hall, a library, a basketball court, a sports field, and modern classroom blocks. In 2021, 12 students from Aburi Girls senior high school represented Ghana at the first-ever Global Robotics Competition.

Another notable achievement of the school is that, it cleared top awards in two categories, Best in Mathematics and Best in Science in the West African School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) between 2011 and 2015. In 2015 ABUGISS also won three top awards including the National Best School.

3. Krobo Girls’ Senior High School

Krobo Girls’ Senior High School is an all-female educational institution founded in 1927 in Odumasi Krobo in the Eastern Region. The school is nicknamed KROGISS and was founded by Scottish missionaries.

The school has adequate facilities with more than 20 classrooms and laboratories (complete Science Resource Centre). The school has progressively improved in WASSCE with about 80% of students gaining admission into universities and 20% into other tertiary institutions. Two of their students excelled in a French competition organized by CREF (National Coordination Office for Regional Centre for Teaching of French).

The school operates a guidance and counselling unit which takes care of students’ academic, social, psychological needs. The unit runs a weekly group counselling session known as “Homeroom programme” where students are exposed to ideas they need to facilitate their studies and social integration.

4. St. Louis Girls Senior High School

St. Louis Girls Senior High School is a second-cycle educational institution for girls founded in 1952 by St. Louis Sisters at Oduom a suburb of Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.

The school has an alliance with Opoku Ware Senior High School popularly called Akataslopsa. The school has very good facilities and excellent tuition.

Some of their prominent alumni are Elizabeth Adjei, a diplomat, Anne Amuzu, a computer scientist and entrepreneur and Afia Schwarzenegger, a Ghanaian media personality.

Holy Child School, also known as Angel’s Hill, is an all-girls boarding second-cycle institution founded in 1946 in Cape Coast in the Central Region of Ghana.

In 2003, the school was ranked among the best 10 schools in Africa, producing the best overall female student in the 2003 Senior Secondary School Certificate Examinations (SSSCE). Holy Child School also produced the overall best student, Jochebed Adwoa Sutherland and the overall second-best student, Audrey Emefa Awuttey for the 2017 West African Senior School Examination, WASSCE.

Mfantsiman Girls Senior High School is an all-girls second cycle institution in the Central Region founded in 1960 by Kwame Nkrumah. The school is commonly referred to as ‘Syte’ with the motto ‘Obra Nye Woarbo’ in Twi meaning ‘Life is what you make it’.

Mfantsiman has many prominent alumni in many fields including Samira Bawumia, Second Lady of Ghana, Jennifer Lartey, diplomat to the kingdom of Norway and Nadia Buari an award-winning actress.
