Regimental band is a band made up of a military formation varying in size from a battalion to a number of battalions. Senior high schools are mostly focused on training students academically, however a wholesome education also involves extracurricular activities.

Extracurricular activities include sports, student government, community service, arts, hobbies, and educational clubs. Extracurricular activities all complement an academic curriculum. In view of this fact, many senior high schools have formed clubs that train students to play instruments as part of a band.   1. Oyoko Methodist Senior High School

Oyoko Methodist Senior High School (abbreviated OMESS) is a high school located in Oyoko, Koforidua, Eastern Region of Ghana. It was established in 1989 and is a category B school.

The educational subjects are divided to 6 fields: Agricultural science, Business, General Arts, Science, Home Economics, Visual Arts. Students participate in various public activities including planting trees, in 2008 they planted about 1,500 seedlings of various tree species to mark the World Environment Day Celebration.

 OMESS has the best SHS regimental band in Ghana and this was evident when they won the National Cadet Band Competition in 2022.

2. Wesley Girls Senior High School

Wesley Girls’ High School (WGHS) is an educational institution for girls in Cape Coast in the Central region of Ghana. It was founded in 1836 and is named after the founder of Methodism, John Wesley.

Wesley Girls’ High School was ranked 68th out of the top 100 best high schools in Africa-by-Africa Almanac in 2003, based upon quality of education, student engagement, strength and activities of alumnae, school profile, internet and news visibility.

3. Suhum Senior High Technical School

Suhum Senior High Technical School (SUTESCO) was founded in 1963 and is the first secondary Technical in the Eastern Region. It is found beside the fly-over at Suhum along the Accra-Kumasi Road.

The school has a vision to be a first class second cycle institution as the school’s motto depicts, “nothing but the best”. Products of SUTESCO are to be gainfully employed and aspire to be at the top in the society.

4. Ghana Secondary Technical School

The Ghana Secondary Technical School is a science and technology-oriented high school located in Takoradi on the west coast of Ghana. It is the third oldest high school in Ghana – the oldest ‘non-missionary’ high school. The school was founded on the 9th of August 1909 in Accra as a pure Technical School providing a 3 – year course in Woodwork and Metalwork.

Former students of the school are known as Giants, and students in the school are called Tescans. It was the first school in the Gold Coast to establish a cadet corps in 1954 and was also the first Secondary Technical School in the country. The school has a vibrant brass band which placed fourth in the national cadet band competition in 2022.

6. Mfantsipim Senior High School

Mfantsipim is an all-boys boarding secondary school in Cape Coast, Ghana, established in 1876 to foster intellectual, moral, and spiritual growth.

Mfantsipim is nicknamed “The School” by its old boys for the fact that several other schools in Ghana were born out of it, as these schools were started with students from Mfantsipim. The school was established to train teachers and was later deemed to be a grammar school because Latin and Greek were taught there in the beginning, though it also offered other disciplines such as carpentry, art and crafts.

There have been many influential products of the school who have served, not only the country and the continent of Africa, but also continents outside Africa and many international bodies. 7. Accra Girls Senior High School

Accra Girls Senior High School is an all-female second cycle institution in Accra in the Greater Accra Region, Ghana. Accra Girls Senior High Is a Category A Girls School and one of the senior high schools in Greater Accra at Mamobi of Accra Metro District.

It operates as a non-denominational day and boarding school. It runs courses in business, general science, general arts, home economics and visual arts. The school’s regimental band participated in the National Cadet Band Competition in 2022.

8. Adisadel College

Adisadel college popularly known as “ADISCO”, is an Anglican boys’ boarding school in Cape Coast, Ghana. Adisadel was established in 1910 and is the second-oldest secondary school in Ghana.

The school uniform is black and white striped shirt and black shorts, which directly reflects the primary colours of the college. Adisadel College was the first secondary school in the history of Ghana to design special cloaks for its prefects: red for the head prefect, blue for the other prefects, and green for the assistants.[4] That tradition still persists till this day.

The school’s regimental band plays several songs and is one of the senior high schools with the best regimental bands in the country.

9. Accra Academy

The academy was established as a private secondary educational institution in 1931 and gained the status of a Government-Assisted School in 1950. In 1981, the academy gained the status of a completely developed senior secondary school.

Accra Academy is one of the foremost secondary educational institutions in Ghana and operates as a non-denominational day and boarding boys’ school. It is located at Bubuashie near Kaneshie in the Greater Accra Region. It was the first private academy to be established in the Gold Coast.

10. Mawuko Girls Senior High School

Mawuko Girls’ High school, Ghana, is an educational institution for girls established in 1983 and gained the status of a Boarding School in 1997.

 Courses taught include Business, Home Economics, Visual Arts and Performing Arts. The school is the second senior high school for girls in Ho, the capital city of the Volta region and maintains the motto, “Educate a woman for God and educate a whole nation for God.”
