Although the unemployment rate in Ghana is High, some Citizens are enjoying higher salaries. Salaries range from 1,280 GHS (lowest average) to 22,600 GHS (highest average, actual maximum salary is higher). This is the average monthly salary including housing, transport, and other benefits.

  1. Anesthesiologists | Surgeons

Salary Range: GHC 15,400 – 23,400

Surgeons top the list of the highest paying careers due to the critical nature of their job. A surgeon’s profession involves high risk and requires extensive knowledge and a long learning path; the necessary ingredients for a high paying career.

 In Ghana, there is stiff competition in the medical field; that is because medicine is deemed a prestigious and financially lucrative profession. But looking at their long period of training which usually lasts from 6 to 7 years, we could say that doctors deserve it.  After all, health is wealth. Senior medical doctors take home up to GHC 20,000 per month. Being a surgeon is a high-risk job, requires extensive knowledge, and has a high perceived value.

Anaesthesiologists evaluate, monitor, and supervise patient care before, during, and after surgery, delivering anaesthesia, leading the Anaesthesia Care Team, and ensuring optimal patient safety. Anaesthesiologists specialize in anaesthesia care, pain management, and critical care medicine.

2. Fuel Handler

Salary Range: GHC 10,000

This is one of the highest paying professions in Ghana. Fuel handlers in Ghana are technically-inclined people who handle the pumping of aviation fuel into aircraft or other machines.

Their tasks involve ensuring the delivery of high quality and sufficient fuel to power commercial airliners, power plants, biomass plants, etc. They are also trained and certified to maintain stored fuel.

3. Transportation/Shipping Supervisor

Salary Range: GHC 9,000

If you are looking to make some good money in an office space, then this profession may just be worth it. The growth rate of employment in this sector has increased significantly within the last ten years. Shipping supervisors are tasked with maintaining schedules, planning shipping routes, and liaising with customers.

4. Judges

Salary Range: from 8,550 GHS to 23,900 GHS

The Judiciary is the branch of government given authority to interpret, apply and enforce the laws of Ghana.

The Judiciary is made up of the Supreme Court, the Court of Appeal, High Court and Regional Tribunals and such Lower Courts and Tribunals as Parliament may establish and shall have the Chief Justice as the Head, who are responsible for its administration and supervision.

Judges earn quite high salaries because of the huge responsibilities associated with their job. Deciding people’s fates is not an easy task and the high wage is perfectly justified.

5. Footballers

Salary Range: GHC 6,948 – 31,250

The Ghana Premier League is the top professional association football division of the football league system in Ghana. Although players in the Ghana premier league do not earn as much as those who play in the English premier league, both earn a respectable amount which has earned them a spot in the top 10 most well-paid professions in Ghana.

Jordan Ayew, Kwadwo Asamoah, Daniel Amartey, Andre Dede Ayew, Jeffrey Schlupp, and Christian Atsu are among the top highest-paid Ghanaian footballers in the world.

6. Lawyers

Salary Range: from 6,920 GHS to 19,400 GHS

Lawyers can be referred to as attorneys, advisors or associates depending on where they work

and the type of law they practise.  They majorly give legal advice and represent clients on legal matters ranging from family, health to corporate law.

The main reason that lawyers earn big wages is because of their high perceived value in the eyes of their clients. A successful lawyer can save/earn you tons of money or can possibly spare you a death sentence.

Lawyers also supervise the work of paralegals, legal assistants and secretaries who work in their law firms. Work hours for lawyers could be for 40 hours or more when there are pressing issues which require extensive research. This certainly shows that they earn their high salaries.

7. Bank Managers

Salary Range: from 6,520 GHS to 18,200 GHS

A bank manager supervises all operations such as customer service, staff management, administration, security and compliance, and sales activities. They also oversee the running of one or more branches and are responsible for meeting tough sales targets and keeping staff fully trained and motivated.

Being in charge of hundreds of millions in funds and investments with all the associated risks that come along makes managing a bank an extremely critical task worthy of a large salary.

8. Chief Executive Officers/ Chief Financial Officers

Salary Range: from 5,630 GHS to 16,600 GHS

A chief executive officer (CEO) is the highest-ranking executive in a company. Broadly speaking, a chief executive officer’sprimary responsibilities include making major corporate decisions, managing the overall operations and resources of a company, acting as the main point of communication between theboard of directors and corporate operations. In many cases, the chief executive officer serves as the public face of the company. 

CEOs are primarily responsible for the success or failure of complete organizations. Their huge remuneration is due to the vast scope of impact as well as the risks involved.

Chief financial officers (CFO)hold the top financial position in an organization. They are responsible for forecasting the organization’s financial standing based on financial and operational data and reports provided by the finance and accounting teams and advising the CEO and board on strategic direction.

Any job that is about managing money automatically qualifies for high pay. CFOs manage budgets, spending, costs, and revenue which directly impacts the operations of the organization.

9. College Professors

Salary Range: from 5,000 GHS to 13,700 GHS

College professors are educators who provide undergraduate and graduate education to students. College professors build a course curriculum, prepare course syllabi, mentor students, present lectures, creat supplemental instructional materials, accurately evaluate students’ progress, grade students, and embark on research and publishing

College professors are among the top-earning and most prestigious careers. Becoming a professor is not easy and requires persistence which is partly why they earn so high.It’s a well-known fact that university lectures enjoy hefty salaries. The teaching profession isn’t bad at all.

10. Pilots

Salary Range: from 4,070 GHS to 13,400 GHS

Airline Pilot responsibilities include conducting various pre-flight checks to the aircraft’s operational systems, creating and adjusting flight plans and ensure secure take-offs and landings.

Probably the only career on the list that involves some kind of excitement, nevertheless; pilots undergo rigorous training programs and they are responsible for the safety of thousands of people every day.
