University tuition fees in Ghana is generally not expensive especially when it comes to government universities. However, there are some universities with ridiculously high tuition fees, most of which are private universities. These universities require their fees to be paid in dollars, which may not seem like much but when converted to Ghana cedis then becomes quite expensive.

It must be noted that investing a great deal of money in a degree doesn’t necessarily guarantee a first-class education or a high paying job upon completion of the university, but it certainly helps if you’re looking to build valuable networks or have access to state-of-the-art facilities to enhance your educational experience.

  1. WEBSTER UNIVERSITY

Webster university is an accredited, private, non-profit university. The main goal of the university is to prepare students to become a lifelong independent learners and leaders. 

The university gives their students the opportunity to take their education abroad and participate in challenging and in-demand programs built to provide the flexibility and convenience necessary to succeed in today’s world.

It is no surprise considering how high their fees are that they have small class sizes, which enables students to receive individual attention and mentorship from their faculty, who bring real-life knowledge to the classroom.

Tuition fee is $10,145 (GHS 106,524) for an academic year, making Webster University the most expensive university in Ghana. Students who wish to study abroad at Webster University pay a tuition fee of $27,840 (GHS 292,324).

2. LANCASTER UNIVERSITY

Lancaster university was founded in 1961 and is primarily based in the UK with a campus here in Ghana.  Launched in Accra in 2013, Lancaster University Ghana is a partnership between the Transnational Academic Group and Lancaster University in the UK.

3. Ashesi University College

Ashesi is a private, not-for-profit, non-sectarian institution. Ashesi university was granted a Charter to operate fully as an autonomous university in 2018.  Ashesi is the youngest university to have achieved such recognition, and one of five private universities in Ghana to have a Charter.

4. Academic City University College

Academic City University College was established in 2009. Academic City College was a standalone facility in Ring Road, Accra, but now has an ultra-modern campus at Haatso in Accra.

In 2017, the university recognized the re-adjusted need for premium quality tertiary education infused with entrepreneurial thinking, innovative problem-solving, application-based learning, and an emphasis on ethical practices, within the African context. 5. Pentecost University

6. Valley View University

Valley View University (VVU) was established in 1979. It is a private university with campuses located at Oyibi (Accra), Kumasi and Techiman (Sunyani) respectively in the Greater Accra, Ashanti and Bono East regions of Ghana. Valley View University was granted a Presidential charter in January 2006, which makes Valley View University the first Chartered Private University in Ghana.

VVU seeks to pass on a passion for excellence, integrity and service. Valley View University is one of the biggest universities in Ghana.

 Tuition fees at Valley View University is about $705 (GHS 7,404) for the academic year. Fresh students also pay other mandatory fees such as admission and orientation fee of about GHC200.00, medical examination fee of about GHC200.00 and SRC dues of about GHC40.00. 7. Kings University College

Kings University College is a private university which was established in February 2009 and was accredited by the National Accreditation Board (NAB) of Ghana in January 2010. KUC is one of the most sought-after private universities in Ghana.

8. Radford University College

Radford University College is a private university established in 2010, located at No. 83 A Lagos Avenue in East Legon, Accra. The College is affiliated to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

Central university is a liberal arts tertiary institution, which was re-christened Central University College in 1998. It has since been accredited by the National Accreditation Board.

In January 2016, the University College received the long-awaited Presidential Charter to become an autonomous and a fully-fledged university as Central University.

Central University has eight (8) faculties/schools, namely the Central Business School (CBS), the School of Architecture and Design (SADe), School of Graduate Studies (SGS), Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS), Faculty of Law (FOL), School of Pharmacy (SOP), School of Engineering and Technology (SET) and the School of Medicine and Health Sciences (SMHS).

10. Ghana Communication Technology University

Ghana Communication Technology University as established in November 2005 and gained full public University status on 13th August 2020. Ghana Communication Technology University (GCTU) is a technology-oriented institution of higher learning, committed to providing an educational experience of the highest quality.

Currently, GCTU offers world-class Certificate, Diploma, and Degree programs under three core faculties: the Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Computing and Information Systems, and GCTU Business School.
