Wa Technical University formally Wa Polytechnic is a public tertiary institution in the Upper West Region of Ghana. The university held its first-ever university graduation on the 14th of November 2020. Wa Technical University has been renamed Dr. Hilla Limann Technical University (DHLTU).

Currently, the University runs seven (7) Bachelor of Technology Programmes accredited by GTEC and fourteen (14) HND programmes accredited by CTVET and other competitive short courses and programmes. Graduate programmes are also being developed to be introduced soon.

Entry requirements into Wa Technical University for SSSCE/WASSCE are passes (A—D/A1-C6) in six (6) subjects comprising three (3) core subjects, including English and Mathematics, and three (3) relevant elective subjects. The aggregate of the six subjects (i.e. three (3) core and three (3) electives) should not exceed aggregate thirty-nine (39) for WASSCE and aggregate 24 for SSSCE.

Candidates with a combination of the two grading systems will be treated on a case-by-case basis.

GBCE HOLDERS (New programme): Applicants must have passes (A-D) in three (3) core subjects (English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science or Social Studies) plus passes (A-D) in three (3) relevant elective subjects. The aggregate of the six subjects should not be more than twenty-four (24).

DBS Holders: DBS Holders’ applicants must hold at least five (5) DBS passes for Secretarial Option, or four (4) DBS passes for Accounting Option. Applicants must also hold four (4) WASSCE passes (A1-D7) or four (4) SSSCE passes (A-D) including English Language and Mathematics.

Mature applicants must be at least 25 years old and have three (3) years professional practice in the relevant study area. Applicants must pass an Entrance Examinations to be conducted by the University in English Language and Mathematics. In lieu of such examinations, the applicants should have credit passes in English Language and Mathematics in WASSCE or any other nationally recognized standard High School level examinations. All applicants should also pass a selection interview

NABPTEX/CTVET Candidates: Six Credit passes; 3 core subjects including English Language & Mathematics and Integrated Science with at least three (3) elective credit passes relevant to the area of Hospitality or Catering.

General Certificate of Education (GCE) Advanced Level Candidates: Passes in three (3) subjects (at least, one of the passes should be Grade D or better). Also, the applicants must have had credit passes (Grade 6) in five GCE Ordinary Level subjects including English Language, Mathematics and Science subjects and five subjects (for non-science students) and an Art subject (for science students).

Admission of Higher National Diploma (HND) Candidates to First Degree Programmes: Applicant must have graduated with a good HND certificate (i.e. at least 2nd Class Lower Division). In addition, the applicant must have acquired a 2-year post-HND qualification working experience. Institutions under mentorship will follow their Mentor Institution’s practice with regard to entry levels for HND applicants. Applicants with HND certificates will enter the B-Tech programme at level 300.
