1. University of Ghana

The logo consists of two colours: indigo and camel. It features a blue shield with three “AYA” symbols standing upright in the upper half and “DWENINMENTOASO” positioned at the centre of the lower half, all embossed in gold. Designed by A. M. Opoku, the “AYA” (the Akan word for fern) is an Adinkra symbol representing truthfulness and resilience.
The logo also incorporates the “Dweninmen” (Akan for ram’s horn) Adinkra symbol. Two interlocking ram’s horns (DWENINMENTOASO) signify strength and a commitment to integrity. The University of Ghana attained degree-awarding status in 1961.
2. Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST)

The Emblem of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology is made up of the aesthetic arrangement of six distinct elements. These elements are relevant to the prime objectives of the University – Teaching, Research and Service to humanity. They are: a Pot of Fire, Callipers, a Golden Stool, an Eagle with outstretched wings, Green leaves, and a Slogan.
The Arrangement
The traditional Ghanaian pot of fire is placed at the top of the emblem with a pair of open callipers turned upside down and hooked to the sides of the stool, perched an eagle with outstretched wings. There are two green leaves, one under each wing of the eagle. There is a motif carved in the middle section of the stool called “Nyansapo” (“The Knot of Wisdom”.) Beneath all these is the slogan “Nyansapo Wosane No Badwenma” (“The knot of wisdom is untied only by the wise”.) The slogan is embossed on a banner folded artistically in three parts around the base of the stool.
3. University of Cape Coast

The Coat of Arms of the University of Cape Coast consists of a shield emblazoned in red, an Adinkra symbol signifying God’s omnipotence. This symbol is superimposed in the lower half of the Shield on a background of Wavy Blue and White Lines signifying the Sea, and in the upper half, a Golden Eagle with outstretched Wings, signifying Strength, Determination and Excellence.
The slogan on the logo “Veritas Nobis Lumen” means ‘Truth, Our Guide’
4. University of Education, Winneba

The principal motif of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) Crest, the “Adinkra Ntesie” is a Ghanaian cultural symbol associated with wisdom and knowledge as the essential ingredients of education.
Arising from the “Adinkra” motif is a torch radiating its light in all directions, suggesting that the knowledge nurtured at the University would become a source of enlightenment to all people far and wide. It is a flame that would dispel the darkness of ignorance.
The red colour combines with the blue against a background of pure white to symbolise hard work and perseverance. All the symbols are set in a circle bearing the motto: Education for Service and symbolising the completeness of training at the University of Education, Winneba.
The Starburst motif of the Crest is made up of different wave lengths and conveys the idea that teachers trained by the University would disperse into every corner of the country and render services to all Ghanaians irrespective of social status, religion or sex.
5. University for Development Studies

The University for Development Studies (UDS) logo incorporates the university’s crest, corporate colours, and the figure “30”. The logo represents the university during special events, such as anniversaries.

The UDS is a public university in Ghana that was established in 1992. The university’s motto is “Knowledge for Service”. The university’s pedagogical philosophy emphasizes the need for universities to play an active role in addressing societal problems.
6. The University of Mines and Technology

The University’s emblem engraved on a classic shield (a protective device, meant to intercept attacks), epitomizes the need at all times, as it were, to protect the acquisition of knowledge, truth and excellence in the fields of mining, technology, engineering and other related disciplines based on sound theory (symbolized by the book) and good practice (symbolized by the geological hammer and the cog wheel). The result is fulfilling wisdom that radiates (like the rising sun) in the lives of all and sundry who imbibe this wisdom from UMaT (Mireku-Gyimah and Annku, 2005).
The black eruption from the base is also symbolic of mineral ores including petroleum from the bowels of the earth for scientific and technological analysis and processing through studies (again symbolized by the book). At the base of the shield is a golden ribbon on which the core values of UMaT knowledge, truth and excellence are inscribed.
UMaT emblem (having a standard width-to-height ratio of 1:1.26) in its standard flat colours: emerald green (growth), sky blue, modulated to single out UMaT’s unique serenity (peace), scarlet red (bravery – UMaT’s virtue galvanized by the blood and toil of the founders of UMaT), golden yellow (elevation of the mind), black (solidity) and white (purity) as background colour. The predominant colour, green, also doubles as the colour of the evergreen forest of the Western Region of Ghana where UMaT is located. The strict proportionality between the symbols and the strong intensity of the colours symbolize discipline and the admiration of the beauty of God’s geometric creation of the universe.
7. Ghana Communication Technology University

Based on an adaptation of the previous logo, the new design of the GCTU logo integrates a symbol of communication, represented by an active ICT Tower, as well as the existing elements of the previous logo, the Chess Board and Adinkra symbol, which are coupled with a mythical sphere and symbolic wreaths. The primary colours of the logo are blue and gold, which have also been based on the previous logo.
The Chess Board

The game of chess represents a reflection of life, specifically the attributes of creativity and intelligence. Engaging both the left and right hemispheres of the brain in terms of critical thinking, chess is largely aimed at symbolizing the world of transformations within a restricted field of action.
Essentially, chess denotes our interaction with the world at large and at the same time, allows us to reflect on our inner selves as we navigate our path to success. This is encapsulated at GCTU, particularly as we capitalize on our strengths and partnerships to complement and reinforce our development.
The Adinkra Symbol

This traditional symbol symbolizes knowledge, lifelong education and a continued quest for enlightenment. Invariably, knowledge promotes intellect and sharpens the mind, fueling the thirst for new knowledge.
This symbol was chosen because of its ability to acutely define the University’s status as an inherently African institution with global, forward-thinking qualities. In particular, the contemporary world is dominated by the knowledge of science and technology; this symbol serves to highlight GCTU’s continued search for knowledge through constant learning and innovation.
The ICT Tower

Undergoing continuous evolution, ICT is a subject which currently covers a broad range of subject matter. Our new mandate incorporates communication as a central theme which primarily serves to complement our notable strength in terms of the delivery of quality, technology oriented education. The concept of communication is key in navigating the global village that is characteristic of 21st century life and as a leader in the provision of transnational education; GCTU prides itself on its strong reputation as a center for creativity and innovation. Our significant collaborations with institutions across the globe serve as a major rationale for the incorporation of communication in our new mandate, a feature which is symbolized by the ICT Tower.
Mythical Sphere

The strength of the University is represented by the mythical sphere at the base of the logo. This feature symbolizes the remarkable evolution of the University from its modest origins as a Telecommunications training centre, to our current status as a fully-fledged public University. The enormous strength which has been demonstrated in navigating this journey is aptly represented in our new logo through this symbol.
Wreaths

Symbolizing royalty, dominance, excellence and superiority, the wreaths represent key principles that are synonymous with the University. The inclusion of this element in the new logo demonstrates GCTU’s commitment to these qualities in the continued development of this great institution.
The Colors Blue and Gold

Blue symbolizes the sky and the sea, both natural features with are associated with freedom, intuition, inspiration and sensitivity. Depth, sincerity, confidence, stability, faith, intelligence and higher ideals are also characteristics that are represented by this color, qualities that GCTU consistently aspires to.
Gold represents wealth, riches and critically, acquired knowledge. The color has been incorporated in the new logo because of its uplifting and illuminating quality. It’s representation of creativity and innovation is central to our values at GCTU and further symbolizes the hope, luminosity, energy and enlightenment that the University is associated with.
8. GIMPA

At the centre of GIMPA’s logo is the tripodal tower, which surges into the sky. It is inspired by the original motto of “Self Reverence, Self Knowledge and Self Control”. This motto was taken from the poem “Oenone” by 19th-century British poet Alfred Lord Tennyson.
The relevant section of the poem reads:
“…Self-reverence, self-knowledge, self-control,
These three alone lead life to sovereign power.
Yet not for power (power of herself
Would come uncall’d for) but to live by law,
Acting the law we live by without fear;
And, because right is right, to follow right
Were wisdom in the scorn of consequence”.
Borrowing from ancient traditions, these handcrafted ceremonial pieces create interest and respect from both participants and observers. They are important representations honouring GIMPA’s continuity and academic strength.
9. University of Professional Studies

The Coat-of-Arms of UPSA has three main features

The Symbol
The Symbol is an adaptation of the Adinkra symbol ‘Ako Ben.’ The Ako Ben is literally translated as ‘War Horn’, a horn used by the Akan traditional War Chief to call his warriors to war. It represents a state of readiness, vigilance and wariness.
The Adinkrah Symbol ‘Ako Ben’
The Symbol, in navy blue colour, signifies the readiness of the University of Professional Studies to promote higher education, by transforming students into graduates who are critical thinkers, confident and wield authority in their fields of discipline.
The Shield
The Shield with the Gold colour is a symbol of protection of the wealth or assets of the University, that is: its intellectual property- which is its pride; its Faculty members– who are the drivers of the knowledge and skills development process; its students- who are the reason for its existence and its alumni – who are the evidence of the success of the University.
The Banner/Scroll
The Banner/Scroll has the inscription-Scholarship with Professionalism- which is the motto of the University. The motto is an expression of the academic intent of the University to provide students with the knowledge and skills so that as graduates, they would be able to solve problems for the socio-economic development of Ghana
10. University of Health and Allied Sciences

UHAS logo features a shield-shaped design with a predominantly yellow and green colour scheme. The background is divided into sections with stylized leaf-like patterns, symbolizing growth and development. At the centre of the shield, there is a white laboratory flask containing a green liquid, representing scientific research and healthcare. The flask is held by a stylized hand, emphasizing human involvement in health sciences.
Two black curved elements extend from the lower sides of the shield, resembling stethoscope tubes, reinforcing the theme of healthcare. Below the shield, a green ribbon banner displays the inscription “HEALTH FOR DEVELOPMENT,” highlighting the institution’s mission of advancing health for societal progress.
11. University of Energy and Natural Resources

UENR logo is made up of a simple shield, a globe with the African Energy Symbol embedded in the background imposed on a flowing river. The sides of the river represent the brown earth. This represents the petroleum products and other minerals stored in the earth’s crust and animals.
The river is blue which represents water as the most abundant resource on the planet. The yellow, green and brown colours signify recycling and conservation of our natural resources which is the University’s core mandate. The motto of the University is (Knowledge integrity impact). Each word stands on its own without full stops and commas.
The meaning of the colours are as follows;
The blue stands for loyalty and confidence.
Green is for growth and productivity.
Brown is for humility, simplicity, dependability, steadfastness, friendliness and good health.
The yellow stands for wealth, wisdom and highly networked faculty.
The University of Energy and Natural Resources stands for these great attributes of the colours in the Logo.
12. Accra Technical University

ATU logo is made up of three significant fundamentals which are crucial to the brand statements of the University. They include; The Shield, The Golden Book, and The Golden Key.
THE SHIELD
The shield reflects our heritage because it was taken from the Accra Polytechnic crest. It has the name of the Institution written in gold within a blue rectangle at the top. The motto “Integrity, Creativity and Excellence” is gold within a blue banner below.
There are three pairs of blue vertical lines on a golden background. Each pair of vertical lines represents a stage of our journey as an academic institution from Technical Institute to Polytechnic to Technical University.
THE GOLDEN BOOK
The Golden Book represents the fountain of knowledge and a world of discovery.
THE GOLDEN KEY
The Golden Key symbolises access to knowledge and the means for discovery, freedom, power, and prominence. The Golden Key is formed from the initials A, T, and U, standing for Accra Technical University.
The Main Parts of the Golden Key
The main parts of the Golden Key are the head, shaft, and bit.
The head is formed from the letter ‘A,’ representing our location in Accra, the capital city of Ghana.
The shaft is formed from the horizontal bar of the letter ‘T.’
The bit is formed by combining the vertical bar of the letter ‘T,’ the letter U and the Nkyinkyim symbol. The Nkyinkyim is a traditional Ghanaian symbol signifying Initiative, Dynamism, and Versatility, which are three elements required for turning knowledge into solutions.
THE COLOURS OF ATU
The colours of ATU are gold (#D4AF35) and blue (#1C4A7E)
Gold is the colour of the Sun and continuous renewal. It is very uplifting and positive. Gold is symbolic of knowledge, learning, and mental development and denotes the ultimate prize, the colour of winners, and the first place prize – a Gold medal.
Blue represents both the Sky and Sea and is the colour of creative intelligence, inspiration, imagination, wisdom, order, and planning. It also represents security, dependability, strength, and trust.
13. Bolgatanga Technical University

Bolgatanga Technical University logo features a circular design with technical and educational elements. The primary colours used are blue, orange, and white.

The emblem of Koforidua Technical University consists of the artistic arrangement of two basic elements, which are unswerving with the core objectives of this noble Institution – Teaching, Research, and Service to humanity. These elements are the Adinkra symbol and a Gear.
The traditional Ghanaian Adinkra symbol “Nea onnim no sua a, ohu” is placed at the centre of the emblem. A Gear (in orange) with a blue outline surrounds the Adinkra symbol on a white background.
The name of the Institution (written on a blue background) can be found at the outer of the above elements and it is artistically designed to fit the path of the circle to hinge on the slogan (on a white background) “Innovating for Development” at the bottom of the emblem.

17. Tamale Technical University

Tamale Technical University logo features a circular design with key elements representing education, technology, and development.

Takoradi Technical University logo/crest incorporates a cogwheel, an open book, the adinkra symbol, two circles, a sea and waves. The cogwheel and the sea have a blue colour. The yellow background merges with the sea waves and the sky through the Adinkrah symbol while the red ring circle lies on it. The open white book with a red-outlined colour rests on the red Adinkrah symbol that appears in the centre of the crest.
The crest interprets excellence in technical and vocational education in manpower training and action research. The royal blue colour symbolizes the honesty and trustworthiness of its members and the nature of the global world of technological education and training undertaken at the institution.

20. Sunyani Technical University

Akenten Appiah Menkah University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAM-USTED) Logo is a perpetual torch with a flame on an open book on a spider’s web enclosed in a maroon gear wheel to provide direction and guidance for training quality TVET and entrepreneurial development teachers to guide and direct students to develop technical, vocational, and entrepreneurial expertise for job creation and socio-economic development, mindful of its motto: “Nimdee ne nsonomunoma suakyere ma mpontuo” embossed in a scroll signifying knowledge at the base of the logo.

CK Tedam University for Technology and Applied Sciences logo features a double helix, a gear, a black star, atomic rings, and a round bottom flask. It’s motto is Creativity and Innovation for Transformation.

The Colour Background of the Logo
The brick-red, white, and black background and outline colours depict the art forms and colours of the people of the Upper East Region.

Aside from this, it is said that red is the first colour that the human eye can perceive upon birth, next to black and white. Therefore, the use of these colours affirms the fact that our University has been born; and not only born but is vibrant and passionate about our mandate (the reddish colour), pursuing everything modern (the white colour) and that we want to command the attention of our audience and let them know that we are confident in the difference we are established to make (the yellow colour).
25. Simon Diedong Dombo University for Business and Integrated Development Studies

Simon Diedong Dombo University for Business and Integrated Development Studies (SDD-UBIDS) logo has a circular design with a green border that contains the university’s full name in black uppercase letters. within the border, there is a central emblem featuring an open scroll with the acronym “UBIDS” and “ad 2019” inscribed on it, symbolizing knowledge and education. a black quill is placed on the scroll, representing writing, learning, and intellectual development.
The background consists of a green landscape, signifying growth and sustainability. at the bottom, a ribbon banner carries the university’s motto, “Leadership excellence & development,” highlighting its focus on leadership and academic excellence.
