When choosing courses at the University of Ghana, you can consider your interests, the subjects offered, and the requirements for your program. Choosing the right courses at the University of Ghana requires careful consideration of the guidelines set by the university. Ensure that your first choice is correctly selected for specific programmes, particularly in the College of Health Sciences and College of Basic and Applied Sciences. When selecting second and third choices, opt for science-related programmes to improve your chances of admission. Additionally, consider Fee-Paying as an alternative option if your preferred programme is highly competitive. By following these guidelines, you can make informed choices and increase your chances of securing a place at the University of Ghana.
Selecting the right courses when applying to the University of Ghana is crucial to increasing your chances of gaining admission. The university has specific guidelines for choosing programmes, particularly for the College of Health Sciences, the College of Basic and Applied Sciences, and the Bachelor of Arts (BA) programme. Follow these key instructions to ensure your application aligns with the admission requirements.
1. Programmes at the College of Health Sciences
If you are interested in pursuing a programme at the College of Health Sciences, note that all programmes in this college, except those offered at the School of Biomedical and Allied Health Sciences, must be selected as FIRST CHOICE only.
Implications:
- You cannot select these programmes as second or third choices.
- Ensure that you meet the entry requirements before making your selection.
2. Selecting a Bachelor of Arts (BA) Programme
Applicants for the Bachelor of Arts (BA) programme must select subjects from a list of bouquets the university provides. The list of bouquets (correct subject selection combinations) is provided at the end of this article under Section 1. A maximum of four (4) subject bouquets should be selected in order of preference.
Advice for B.Sc. Administration and LLB Applicants:
- If you choose B.Sc. Administration or Bachelor of Laws (LLB) as your first choice, it is highly recommended that you select BA subject bouquets as your second choice. This enhances your chances of securing admission should you not meet the competitive cut-off points for your first choice.
3. Programmes in the College of Basic and Applied Sciences
Certain College of Basic and Applied Sciences programmes are designated FIRST CHOICE ONLY. These include:
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine
- Bachelor of Science in Information Technology
- Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering
- Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering
Important Note:
- Do not select any of the above programmes as your second or third choice.
- Ensure that you meet the necessary subject and grade requirements before choosing these programmes.
4. Choosing Second and Third Choices
Applicants who select second and third choices must choose from science-related programmes. This means that if you are unable to gain admission to your first choice, your other options should be within the Sciences.
5. The Fee-Paying Scheme
The university offers Fee-Paying for applicants who qualify for admission to the University of Ghana but do not meet the competitive cut-off points for their preferred programmes. The scheme allows students who did not meet the regular admission cut-off points to still gain admission by paying a higher tuition fee. If you are interested in this option, ensure that you indicate it on your application form. This can serve as a backup plan to increase your chances of securing a place at the university.
