History of the school

The school was established in 1965 as Bompeh Technical Institute to meet the growing need for skilled workers in the Western Region. It began with a small cohort of students and a few technical workshops.

In the 1970s, it transitioned to a full senior high technical school under the Ghana Education Service. Over the decades, it expanded its facilities, updated its curriculum, and grew its student body, becoming one of the leading technical schools in the region.

Location

Bompeh Senior High Technical School is situated on a hillside in Effiakuma, a suburb of Sekondi‑Takoradi.

The campus overlooks the Atlantic coast, offering cool sea breezes and scenic views. It is accessible via the Takoradi‑Axim highway and lies close to the city’s industrial and port areas, giving students exposure to real‑world technical settings.

Population

As of the current academic year, the school enrols about 2,500 students, balanced between male and female learners. The teaching staff consists of approximately 130 educators, including subject specialists and technical instructors.

This yields an average student‑teacher ratio of roughly 19 to 1, allowing for personalised attention in both academic and practical lessons.

Campus

The campus covers about 80 acres and blends historic buildings with modern extensions.

Academic blocks house classrooms for core subjects, a library stocked with textbooks and reference materials, and an ICT centre with internet‑enabled computers.

Technical workshops are fully equipped for woodwork, metalwork, electrical installation, and welding.

Outdoor facilities include a football field, courts for basketball and volleyball, and a multipurpose assembly ground framed by mature trees.

Extracurricular activities

Bompeh offers a variety of clubs and societies that encourage student interests beyond the classroom. The debate and public speaking club competes in regional tournaments. The school choir and drama troupe perform at cultural events and festivals.

Sporting teams in football, athletics, and volleyball train regularly and participate in inter‑school competitions. Technical societies—such as the Engineering Club and Agricultural Science Club—organise practical projects and community outreach programs.

School uniform

Students wear a light blue short‑sleeved shirt with the school crest on the pocket. Boys pair this with navy‑blue trousers, while girls wear navy‑blue skirts. On formal occasions, students add a navy tie featuring the school logo.

Black leather shoes and matching socks complete the attire. For physical education, the kit consists of a white polo shirt trimmed in blue and navy shorts. Grooming standards require neat hairstyles and polished footwear.

Courses offered

Bompeh follows the Ghana Education Service curriculum for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination. It offers five main tracks: General Science, General Arts, Business, Technical, and Home Economics.

The Technical program includes practical courses in woodwork, metalwork, electrical installation, and building construction alongside core subjects. Science and arts students study elective mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, literature, history, and social studies.

Business pupils take accounting, economics, business management, and elective mathematics. Home Economics covers food and nutrition, clothing and textiles, and management of the living.

Other relevant information

The school operates a health clinic staffed by a nurse, and a guidance and counselling centre supports personal and career development.

A student‑run canteen provides affordable meals, and an active Parent‑Teacher Association participates in infrastructure projects. Bompeh’s alumni association offers scholarships, mentorship, and internship opportunities for current students.

Ranking

As a Category A technical school, Bompeh ranks among the top second‑cycle technical institutions in the Western Region. The quality of tuition is reflected in steady improvements in examination results and high pass rates in technical electives.

Facilities are well maintained, with modern workshops and laboratories that support hands‑on learning. Extracurricular achievements in debates, arts, and sports underscore a vibrant student life.

Considering its academic offerings, infrastructure, and community engagement, Bompeh Senior High Technical School stands out as a leading choice for students seeking a blend of technical training and academic rigour.
