Kwabenya Community Senior High School, affectionately known as “The Foxes,” is a coeducational boarding and day institution located in the Nzema East District of Ghana’s Western Region. Since its founding, the school has aimed to provide accessible, quality education for local youth.
With a strong sense of community spirit and a growing reputation for academic and extracurricular achievement, The Foxes continue to nurture well‑rounded graduates ready to contribute to society.
History of the school
Kwabenya Community Senior High School was established by the Ghana Education Service to meet the rising demand for secondary education in rural communities. It is one of the 200 proposed community day senior high schools built by President Mahama.
The NDC/Mahama government, in its bid to enhance access to Secondary Education, awarded a total of 124 Community Day Senior High School (E-Block) projects and completed about 50 of them by December 2016, out of which 46 were personally commissioned by President Mahama. Kwabenya Community Senior High School is one of the senior high schools that was completed and commissioned within this period.
It was commissioned on November 11, 2016, as a sponsored project between the World Bank and the Government of Ghana to improve the quality and accessibility of education in the Dome-Kwabenya Constituency.
It was equipped with an ultra-modern library, furnished classrooms, an ICT laboratory, a Biology laboratory, a Physics laboratory, a Chemistry laboratory, a General Science laboratory, a school bus for students and a pick-up vehicle for office staff, among others.
Location
Kwabenya Community Senior High School is located at Atomic Down, Kwabenya, in Accra. It is located in the Ga East Municipal District.
It is a few kilometres from the Ghana Atomic Energy Commission and the Ga East Hospital.
Population
As of the 2024–2025 academic year, Kwabenya Community Senior High School enrols approximately 1,200 students. As a day school, it offers no boarding accommodations. All students commute to the school daily.
The teaching staff comprises twenty‐five full‐time educators, supported by matrons, a school nurse, and administrative personnel. This yields a student‑teacher ratio of about 40 to 1, reflecting the school’s rapid growth and ongoing efforts to attract qualified teachers.
Campus
The campus consists of three classroom blocks, each with six to eight rooms; two science laboratories for physics and biology; and a small library that doubles as a study hall.

A multipurpose hall serves as an assembly area and indoor sports venue.

Outdoor facilities include a football field, a basketball court, and open‑air courts for volleyball and netball.

On‑site staff quarters and a boarding complex with three dormitories provide accommodation and communal dining for boarders.

Extracurricular activities
Students can join a range of clubs and teams that broaden their skills beyond the classroom. The inter‑house soccer league is fiercely contested each term, while athletics and volleyball teams compete in district championships.

Academic clubs include the Science and Maths Club, the Young Farmers’ Club, and a debate society that participates in regional tournaments. Cultural troupes showcase Nzema dance and drumming at local festivals, and the school’s pioneering Eco‑Club leads tree‑planting and river‑cleaning projects.
School uniform
The uniform features a forest‑green short‑sleeved shirt embroidered with the school crest. Boys wear brown khaki trousers, and girls wear pink skirts/dresses that fall below the knee.

Plain black shoes and matching socks complete the attire. Physical education days require a white polo shirt with green trim and brown shorts. Strict grooming standards reinforce discipline and school pride.
Courses offered
The school offers four main tracks under the Ghana Education Service syllabus for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination. In the General Science program, students study elective mathematics, physics, and biology.
The General Arts track covers literature in English, history, government, economics, and geography. The Business route includes accounting, economics, business management, and elective mathematics.
A Home Economics option provides training in food and nutrition, clothing and textiles, and management in living. Vocational subjects such as carpentry and welding are also available to interested students.
Ranking
Classified as a Category C school with a school code 0010534, Kabenya Community Senior High School is steadily climbing in performance metrics.
Quality of tuition has improved with ongoing teacher training and the introduction of remedial classes, leading to rising examination pass rates. Facilities, while modest, meet essential teaching and boarding needs, and plans are underway to build a dedicated ICT lab.
Extracurricular achievements—particularly in district sports and science quizzes—demonstrate a vibrant student life. The school’s strong community partnerships, expanding vocational offerings, and commitment to student welfare position it as a promising institution within the region’s secondary education landscape.
